ST. LOUIS HUMANE SOCIETY

The St. Louis Humane Society is a non profit organization that specializes in the rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption of animals. The organization strives to prevent animal cruelty in any form through the many branches that make up their organization. The St. Louis Humane Society also accepts no local, state or government funding. In fact, it operates solely on the individual donations of regular people and other corporations or foundations. The St. Louis Humane Society has been fighting for animals since 1870 when they first opened their doors and their hearts to the abused and neglected animal.
Right now, just in the St. Louis Humane Society Shelter, there are around 75 animals in need of a new home. The animal was possibly neglected, abused, left behind, or brought in by its owner who could no longer care for it. In any case, the St. Louis Humane Society takes over care of the animal; nursing it back to health, teaching it to trust again, giving it a temporary home as well as food and genuine affection.
A popular emerging trend to purchasing an animal from a breeder is the adoption of an animal from a shelter. Why encourage puppy mills and other breeders when there are several great and loving animals that need a permanent home very badly right now at the shelter? Many people do not trust an animal that they do not raise. Still other individuals feel that the abuse or neglect that the animal endured may now cause them to be mean or vicious animals. The Humane Society tests these animals thoroughly before putting them up for adoption.
The animals must pass certain tests that determine the level of aggression in the animal before they can be released into a permanent home. The animal is tested around other animals, adult humans, children and infants to see how it will react in confusing, exciting or hectic situations. The animal is also tested for disease and parasites. You can trust that the Humane Society works to maintain high standards and provides the ultimate in care for the animals that they hold within their doors.
The St. Louis Humane Society offers a wide variety of dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, and other animals that are available for adoption. The adoption fee generally includes the animal’s current shots and the cost for having them spayed or neutered. Dogs even come with a free bag of dog food.
